Posted by Andover Nordic at Jan 15, 2024 7:35PM PST

Good evening all!!
Hope everyone is staying warm! Especially you athletes out there!! Be safe and dress warm!!

We have decided to open another fundraising opportunity.
Betty’s Pies! For those that have never heard of them, this is the famous pie place everyone talks about when heading up the north shore! If you have never had them, they are the best pies around!!

Attached is the order form for you to print off and get those orders to your friends, families and co-workers.
Feel free to post on social media as well.
Orders will be due on Thursday February 1st. They will make a great addition to your Easter festivities.
Thank you for your participation in helping raise funds for the team!

The document Betty_s_Pies_Fundraiser__Order_Form.pdf was attached to this post.

Good evening!

We are still in need of volunteers for the Beef O’Brady’s fundraiser and Cub Foods Bagging.

INFO FOR BEEF’S:
A fundraiser is set up at Beef O’Brady’s for Sunday January 21st from 12-4pm. We will need volunteers to help pull this together. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a bake sale. (The raffle tickets are sold and there will be drawings throughout the event for cash prizes)

ATHLETES: Please wear your nordic apparel

You can get your raffle tickets from Mark Jendro or the captains. Tickets are $1.00 a piece. The athletes have a lot of fun with this competing boys vs. girls. The athletes will walk around selling raffle tickets during the event. The more energy that is brought to the event the more Beef’s will donate. (It is typically 15-20 percent of their sales)

There will also be a bake sale for you to bring your baked goods to sell. Brad mentioned also that chex mixes or any salty mixes sell really well. Think of unique baked goods.

Brad the owner of Beef’s will put pricing on the baked goods, all you have to do is put them together and package nicely.

  • INFO FOR CUB FOODS BAGGING:*
We have set up a Cub Foods Bagging on Sunday January 28th from 10am to 2pm. There will be 2 hour slots to work at. Location is: 2050 Northdale Blvd NW Coon Rapids

Athletes: Please wear your nordic apparel.

Athletes will be stationed at the end of the checkout area and will ask shoppers if they can help bag their groceries. If the shopper agrees to the bagging- they can thank them and tell them about our team: who we are, what we do, how the season is going, and what we are raising money for. There will be a bucket for donations on a table near the exit door, or sometimes the customers will hand the athlete a tip and they can place it in the donation bucket.

Athletes and parents are not allowed to be on cell phones during your shift. If you need to use your phone, please step away from the bagging area and be discreet with it. This has been a huge complaint from customers. We would like the athletes to engage as much as possible with the customers. This will also help with tips which is how the funds are made with this.

UPDATES AND INFO FROM COACH SPENCER

Posted by Andover Nordic at Jan 12, 2024 5:09PM PST

Hey Everybody!

With only one month remaining in the season, I just wanted to connect and lay out what the rest of the season will look like for the team, as well as clear up any confusion with the process moving forward. First things first, I want to clear up any confusion, as I know that information doesn’t always fully make its way beyond the athlete.

As you have noticed, the past couple weeks have consisted of a few official practice days, a couple of meets, and then a few days “on their own”. And as we know, nordic skiing is a very weather-dependent sport. Due to the lack of snow this year, the only opportunity we have to ski as a team is when Elm Creek has a practice time slot for us. This late in the season, I the most important thing is to get on snow as much as possible. So for those days we don’t have a slot at Elm, rather than requiring them to spend a time at school running or lifting, I want athletes to do their best to get out to Elm on their own and ski (I, as a coach, am not allowed to be present outside of designated time slots). I’ve been providing workouts to the athletes through GroupMe that they are then able to perform if they can ski. And worst case scenario, if they are not able to make it to a trail, they know to get a run in on their own.

I know many athletes have been proactive in arranging carpools, so I want to encourage them to continue to build on that for those days we don’t have a practice slot.

Looking ahead, there are only a few weeks of racing left, starting with tomorrow at the ABC relays. This is one of our unique relay-style meets where each athlete will be on a team. It is held at the Mora Vasaloppet Center with the bus leaving AHS at 8am. The boys race is at 10:00, with the girls starting at 11:30. Spectators are advised to park at TRAILVIEW ELEMENTARY, just west of the Nordic Center.

Our conference meet will take place Monday, the 29th, with sections being the following week. These are limited Varsity races, so not all athletes will compete. For those who don’t compete at either of those, their final race will be Wednesday, January 31 at Elm Creek.

Mark Jendro will be available at the meets for you to get your raffle tickets. He will be at the athletes table by the hot chocolate after the meet in the Chalet.
Please make sure to invite your friends and family to eat at Beef’s that day to support the team!

-We also have a Cub Foods Bagging set up on Sunday July 28th from 10am to 2pm. We have it broken down into 2 hour increments to make it a little more manageable. The deadline to sign up for the Cub Foods bagging will be Monday January 22nd. If we do not get enough volunteers for this we will not be able to do it, and we need to give them advance notice.

Below is the sign up for this along with the information about the fundraiser.

These are two opportunities for anyone who needs to fulfill their volunteer time to meet their fundraising goal to be able to receive your money back that we collected at the beginning of the season for fundraising. These are the last two opportunities for this.

-Snacks are still needed for the meet Saturday. Below is the link to sign up.
